BIG-GEOMOVE: Analysis of indicators Big Geo-Data of urban roads for the dynamic design of safe school routes

The BIG-GEOMOVE project proposes the creation of new indicators to characterize urban roads by applying Big Data and geostatistical analysis to multiple urban data sources.
The use of these techniques will facilitate the characterization of the different road elements (sidewalks, pavement, curbs, slopes, stairs, wooded areas, etc.) and the analysis of the perception of the pedestrians about them (buildings, shops, environment, convenience, etc) that are embraced in the concept of walkability.
For the development of the project we will use different techniques to capture and generate the point clouds (by means of LiDAR sensors and photogrammetric restitution) in order to study and classify the different geometries of the roads. This information will be merged with socioeconomic and perceptive data, some of them already available and some of them that will be gathered by means of collaborative evaluation techniques (http://pulse.media.mit.edu or http://emapic.es). On this basis, an “impedance surface” will be constructed with the objectives of representing the difficulty of the different routes and to identify the optimal routes.
