Conferencia - Biomechanical Imaging & Simulation

In recent years, 3D-imaging modalities like micro-CT and cone-beam CT have become available. In this lecture, these imaging techniques will be discussed and examples from the author’s own lines of research will be presented to show how these can be used for biomechanical modeling and simulation.

Michel Dalstra is a mechanical engineer, specialized in biomechanics. He received his PhD on the biomechanical aspects of the pelvic bone and design criteria for acetabular prostheses from the University of Nijmegen, in 1993. Later that year he moved to Denmark to work at the Orthopaedic Research Lab of Aarhus University Hospital on a grant for foreign researchers. In 1997 he joined the Orthodontic Dept of the Aarhus School of Dentistry, and since 2000 he is an associate professor there. His main areas of research are the biomechanics of bone and implants, finite element modeling, 3D-imaging and most recently virtual maxillofacial surgery simulation.
