Process mining is a research field focusing on the discovery, study and enhancement of real processes. One of the big challenges in process mining during past years has been the discovery and study of highly complex process models, characterized by a high number of relations and tasks, making more difficult or even impossible the enhancement of the process.

With the increase in the monitorization of processes, the apparition of such models has become more common, increasing the need of techniques to simplify process models, helping to interpret them.

In this doctoral thesis we intend to develop a set of techniques based on frequent and infrequent behavior for the simplification of complex processes, with the main objective of easing their understanding. This presentation will cover the techniques currently developed and possible future work regarding this thesis.
