José Manuel Cotos Yáñez

Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela from 1993 to the present in the area of Software and Systems (Department of Electronics and Computer Science). Currently I am part of the research staff of the Centro de Investigación en Tecnoloxías da Información at the University of Santiago de Compostela (CITIUS), where I manage the research group COGRADE (Computer Graphics and Data Engineering). My areas of research include the Acquisition of distributed sensor's data, its integration with GIS, Remote Sensing, and the development of AI-based tools for the extraction, analysis and classification of contextual information provided by the sensors.

Between 2001 and 2003 I was secretary of the degree of the University of Santiago de Compostela, in Information Technology and Communications, and from 2003-2007 I served as Vice-Deputy Business Innovation in the Directorate-General for R&D&i of the Xunta de Galicia (Regional Government)

I am also a founding member and administrator of the spin-off Paralaxe, Multimedia and Virtual Systems sl, spin-off from the Tecnological Research Institute of the University of Santiago de Compostela, which is dedicated to developing multimedia systems and virtual reality.

I have participated in over 20 research projects and in more than 50 contracts with companies and institutions, mostly related to technology transfer to the business sector, and between 2009 and 2013 I was attached to the chair of an international university network that promotes entrepreneurship by universities, (RedEmprendia).

At present I am involved in developing a software platform for data acquisition, which will be validated with data from the digital home («SmartHome»), as part of a Interconecta project -call 2011-.
