STERappImagesDB

This is a dataset composed by images belonging to the fish species Atlantic mackerel, Ballan wrasse, European pilchard, Four-spot megrim and Roughhead grenadier, originally used in the STERapp evaluation process. XML files were generated using STERapp and then supervised by the experts Rosario Domínguez-Petit and Andrés Villaverde from Oceanographic Center of Vigo (IEO) and Sonia Rábade Uberos from the Marine Research Institute (IIM), both belonging to CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, the Spanish research centers).

This dataset can be valuable for evaluation of image segmentation algorithms, parsing the data contained in the XML files. It can be used as-is to test STERapp capabilities, too.

We also add the fish species European hake and pouting, used to test the software [Govocitos][https://gitlab.citius.usc.es/govocitos/govocitos] in the IIM lab (CSIC).

Data Structure

The dataset is distributed in seven zip files (one for each fish species): Atlantic-mackerel for Atlantic mackerel, Ballan-wrasse.zip for Ballan wrasse, European-pilchard for European pilchard, Four-spot-megrim for Four-spot megrim, Roughhead-grenadier for Roughhead grenadier, EuropeanHake for European hake and pouting for pouting.

Every zip file contains two folders:

• images: The original images.
• xml: cells outlines and their classification using STERapp.

XML files follow this XSD. The root element Poligonos has several FreeHand elements, composed of several FreePoint elements each describing the cell polygons. The attribute clase is the development stage for each matured cell: 1 for cortical alveoli, 2 for vitellogenic, 3 for hydrated and 4 for void. The attribute typeis the presence/absence of visible nucleus: 0 for without visible nucleus and 1 for visible nucleus.
